Hundreds of children to learn fun life skill at Jimboomba’s first swim school

Enrolments for the first Jimboomba swim school reached triple figures ahead of its opening on Jan 25, reaffirming the region’s need for a quality swimming facility for children.

JUMP! Swim Schools Jimboomba owner Shelly Snow is a mum of three with an extensive background in swimming. She bought the year-round swim school to address the region’s lack of learn-to-swim facilities. Her goal was to provide a fun life skill to local children through JUMP!’s award-winning curriculum.

Mrs Snow says,

“Jimboomba is a semi rural area and being around water is a big part of our children’s lifestyle – most people live on acreage and there is a lot of open water, dams that are not fenced, and swimming pools.

“But we don’t have a learn-to-swim centre out here.

“We have seven year olds in (beginners) classes because they can’t swim – they’ve never had the opportunity to learn. We have parents driving 40km to our classes because there is nothing else nearby.

“Our area is underserviced by learn-to-swim options and I hope to deliver a vital service and life skill to the community.”

Mrs Snow represented her school, club, region and state many times over during her competitive swimming career. She said of the hundreds of children enrolled in lessons at JUMP! Jimboomba, the biggest percentage was babies aged from 10 months.

These figures are inline with all 40 JUMP! Swim Schools sites currently teaching the fun life skill to 15,000 children and babies across Australia – 50% of which are babies.

JUMP! managing director Ian Campbell said the company identified the demand for learn to swim in regional and remote areas as part of its aim to ensure more Australian children are competent and exposed to the fundamental life skill of swimming and water safety.

He said,

“The iconic Australian lifestyle centres around water-based activities whether it’s surfing or sailing on the coast, rowing or skiing on our rivers, fishing or canoeing in our lakes, or enjoying family time in the backyard pool or hotel resort.

“At the very foundation of these activities is water confidence.

“Our family-friendly approach fosters close relationships with owners, teachers, children and parents making for a familiar and safe environment, perfect for boosting the confidence in young swimmers.”

JUMP! has put specialised education back into learn-to-swim by crafting a tailored, competency-based program that is backed by the latest child care and teaching research and focuses on the joy or participation and parental engagement.

JUMP! instructors are expert in teaching babies from three months of age and just two classes are run simultaneously, numbers are capped at six per class, and the custom pool is heated to 32 degrees all year round.

JUMP! Swim Schools Jimboomba is at 2/44 Cerina Cct.
